The status quo is not working in Harrisburg. We are asking for better procedural rules that support collaborative policymaking. Contact your state representative and senator, AND legislative leaders.
FDPA is asking voters to contact their own legislators AND legislative leaders by to say:
Given divided leadership in the General Assembly, there is a unique opportunity for better legislative rules. Please do all you can to ensure bipartisan solutions get a vote. In committee. On the floor. In the other chamber.
Ready to get started? Follow these steps for a phone call or to write a note.
1. Find your state legislators
To find your legislators, go to the PA General Assembly locator tool to see who represents you. You will contact the people representing you in the PA House and Senate, not the US House or Senate.
Sample scripts:
- Current Legislative Rules allow any one of six majority party gatekeepers to block any bill for any reason—regardless of support within the Legislature or the public. Please do all you can to ensure bipartisan solutions get a vote. In committee. On the floor. In the other chamber.
-
The {your family name} family wishes you a happy holiday. Our wish for the new year is for legislative rules that allow you to represent us well. Please do all you can to make sure rules allow bipartisan solutions a vote in committee, on the floor, and in the other chamber. We ALL want the best for PA. Please help make that happen!
Other ideas:
- Clip a copy of a letter to the editor about rules reform, put it in a holiday card and send it with a personal note.
- Print a family photo or district landmark and send it as a postcard with your message on the back.
2. Write or call leaders in the House and Senate
Sample script:
PA can’t afford another session where committee chairs ignore solutions recommended by bipartisan commissions and half the bills passed in one chamber never receive a vote in the other. PA voters want legislative rules that allow bipartisan solutions a vote. Please negotiate rules that ensure bills with demonstrated bipartisan support receive a vote in committee, on the floor and in the other chamber.
