The League of Women Voters US has declared April 29 the People Powered Fair Maps National Day of Action. We’re joining in with as many allies as we can find to say PA VOTERS WANT FAIR DISTRICTS!

ALLEGHENY COUNTY: THE PICTURE IS CLEAR — PA WANTS FAIR, TRANSPARENT REDISTRICTING!

April 28: 11:00 am [NOTE DATE CHANGE]
Meet at the top of the Duquesne Incline in Pittsburgh, where we will use a drone to get a group photo of all assembled with the city skyline in the background. MASKS REQUIRED.

Be sure to allow enough time to park and ride to the summit to be there at 11:00am. The fare for a round-trip ride on the Incline is $5.00 payable by cash or credit card.

Wear your green Fair Districts PA T-shirt and walk Third Street to engage with votes and hand out information about HB 22 and SB 222, the Redistricting Transparency bills! Meet at the clock tower at the corner of 3rd Street and College Avenue, Beaver.

BUCKS COUNTY: CELEBRATING FAIR MAPS SUPPORTERS

Bucks County Administration Building, 55 E. Court Street, Doylestown
Representatives of the LWV of Bucks County will recognize Pennsylvania State Representative Wendi Thomas (178th) who is the prime sponsor of HB22 to end partisan gerrymandering for her leadership. The League will also recognize other state legislators and the Bucks County commissioners who support redistricting reform. We will thank the many state Senators and Representatives on both sides of the aisle who have co-sponsored legislation to ensure fair districts in Pennsylvania.

CAMBRIA COUNTY: SINGING THE BLUES FOR UNFAIR VOTING DISTRICTS

Come meet some other Cambria FDPA supporters, sign some postcards to send to our legislators, listen to the blues. Bring a picnic meal if you want, or just stop by and say Hi. We’ll have postcards to share.

CENTRE COUNTY: HOUNDING OUR LEGISLATORS FOR REDISTRICTING REFORM

April 29, 10 am to noon, Match Factory Place, Bellefonte
Meet at Sen. Corman’s Bellefonte office to photograph our dogs wearing signs with clever logos, talk to passers-by, make balloon dogs with Fair Districts stickers, and share non-partisan information about redistricting reform. After 45 minutes, take a short walk through Talleyrand Park to Rep. Benninghoff’s office and repeat activities there. Non-dog owners are welcome, too!

CHESTER COUNTY: HIT THE TRAIL FOR REDISTRICTING REFORM!

Chester Valley Trail; meet at Exton Park trailhead: 132 Church Farm Lane, Exton (accesss from Swedesford Road)
Join family and friends to bike or walk Chester County’s premier pedestrian trail as we the people advocate for redistricting reform to ensure legislative voting district maps are drawn fairly and without partisan favor. District maps drawn in fall 2021 remain in place until 2031. Last shot at reform to impact voting districts for a decade.
Information on reform legislation (HB 22 & SB 222) and masks, T-shirts & hand flags will be provided in limited supply. Let’s walk and roll!

CHESTER, DELAWARE AND MONTGOMERY COUNTIES: RALLY AT VALLEY FORGE PARK

Join Leagues of Women Voters of Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties for the People Powered Fair Maps Day of Action rally in the lower visitors’ parking lot at Valley Forge National Park. Hear from specials guests, including past LWVPA President Susan Carty and 2011 redistricting litigant Amanda Holt.

INDIANA COUNTY: FURRY FRIENDS FOR FAIR DISTRICTS: A RALLY FOR REDISTRICTING REFORM

Join member of the League of Women Voters and Fair Districts PA Indiana County at IRMC Park in Indiana to show off canine companions and dedication to democracy. Masks are required. Well-behaved dogs are optional. Come prepared for a group photo to say “Indiana County wants fair districts!”

LEHIGH COUNTY: RING THE BELL FOR LIBERTY!

Liberty Bell Museum, Historic Zion United Church of Christ 622 Hamilton St, Allentown
Gather at the Liberty Bell Museum at the Historic Zion’s United Church of Christ for a brief speech, followed by each of us ringing the bell. Afterwards, weather-permitting, we will take a stroll on the Arts Walk. Parking is available at 603 Linden St Garage, or 13 S 6th St, or 615 W Walnut St. Masks are required and social distancing inside the museum will be enforced. FDPA masks and tee shirts will be available for those who rsvp as supplies last.

LEHIGH COUNTY AND NORTHAMPTON COUNTIES: CELEBRATING DEFENDERS OF DEMOCRACY

We are celebrating our local “defenders of democracy” —Sen. Lisa Boscola and Rep. Steve Samuelson. Join us as we honor them and take some time to socialize with each other. Event will be held on the first floor, in the common area, or if weather permits, just outside in the town square area. Masks are required.

This event is meant to call attention to Senate District 48. The district includes all of Lebanon County, a small corridor through southern Dauphin County, then a large area in the northeast part of York County. There is no way to cross from the eastern to the western part of the district by land or bridge, so some of our group will be taking boats across while others drive around, traveling through SD 31 if crossing on Rt. 76, or through both SD 15 and 31 if choosing to avoid the toll and take Rt. 83. Kayaks, paddles, lifejackets and transportation supplied by Chiques Rock Outfitters. April 29.

WARREN COUNTY: IT CAN HAPPEN HERE, AND IT DID IN 2001

404 Market Street, Warren
The 2001 PA senatorial map moved Mead Township (only one of 21 townships) and Warren City into another district. To show the gerrymandered area, citizens lead by the League of Women Voters of Warren County will meet at points to walk, ride bikes in the city and have a car caravan in the township to show the gerrymandered area. The public will meet outside the House Representative’s office across the street from the Courthouse for the media and citizens to recognize the importance of HB 22 and Senate Bill 222.

Join members of the League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh and Fair Districts PA Allegheny County a the top of the Duquesne Incline in downtown Pittsburgh, where we will use a drone to get a group photo of all assembled with the city skyline in the background.

12:00PM: a press conference will be held at the Bicentennial Tower on the dock. David Thornberg, along with Erie’s Mayor and Executive Director will speak on the subject of Fair Voting Districts for the people of Pennsylvania and ending gerrymandering in this State.
